Mr. Brinkley was also predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean; brother, Abram "Buddy" Ward Brinkley; two sisters, Barbara B. Dixon and Rita B. Eure. Mr. Brinkley was a member of the Pipefitters and Welders Local Union 110. He is survived by his children; Tammy R. Brinkley of Richmond, CA, Patty L. Brinkley of Virginia Beach, Thomas P. Brinkley II and wife, Christina of Norfolk; sisters, Joan B.

He is survived by his bride of 62 years Barbara; sons Robert W. Nelms and wife Elizabeth and David B. Nelms and wife Molly; grandchildren Sarah Nelms, Ashley Nelms, Matthew Nelms, and Abagayle Nelms; and two great grandchildren, Reese and Alana. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Gregory Ryan on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 2:00pm in Oakland Christian United Church of Christ.
