Mary Georgie Gay Jones 90 died February 26 2009 at Nansemond Pointe.

Born in Suffolk VA she was the daughter of the late Joseph Everett and Mary Belle Ellison Gay widow of Arthur Edward Jones Jr. and mother of the late Mary Gay Jones Bell. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Suffolk High School and Mary Washington College and was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Westover Garden Club and former member of the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club.

Ellen Ward Faircloth 82 passed away February 26 2009 at Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk. Born February 19 1927 in Whaleyville Virginia she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Asbell Ward and McCoy Sherald Ward. Ellen graduated from Whaleyville High School and attended Longwood College. An active member of West End Baptist Church for over 50 years Ellen was always ready to step in and do what needed to be done. She also served on the board of the Suffolk chapter of the American Cancer Society for over 12 years and was an active past member and officer of the Lakeview Heights Garden Club.

John A. Howell Jr.

John A. 'Jack'? Howell Jr. 89 of Suffolk VA passed away at his home Sunday February 22 2009. A native of New Bern NC he was the son of the late John Alfred and Hazel Kirk Simpson Howell.

Returning to Suffolk following WWII he operated the Home Laundry and Dry Cleaners with his father until the late sixties. Subsequently he served as the Director of Public Utilities for the City of Portsmouth; a position he held until his retirement.

Coalar Spivey Gray 77 died February 20 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Gates Co. NC she was the daughter of the late Minnie H. and Lucious Spivey and the widow of Howard Evans Gray.

Mrs. Gray was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church and was a retired paper inspector at Union Camp.

Survivors include a daughter Cindy Phelps of Suffolk; son. Howard Gray Jr. of Suffolk; sisters Norma Morris and Ila Blanchard of Suffolk and Jessie Eason and Myrtle Briggs of Hampton; brother Darvin Spivey of Suffolk; two grandchildren Brooke Phelps and Ian Gray.
