Velma Parker Askew Dilday departed this life from her home on April 14, 2019.

Velma, the daughter of the late Henry F. and Lula U. Parker was a native of Gates County, North Carolina. She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

Velma survived her husband, R. Wilson Askew to whom she was married for 55 years and also her second husband, Jesse P. Dilday, to whom she was married for 17 years.

Ella Elizabeth Akers Stephenson of Claremont, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Born July 21, 1926 in Tazwell, VA, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Viola Elizabeth Akers. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, John William Stephenson.

George “Wade” Pitsenbarger, Jr., 58, passed away on April 8, 2019 at his home. He was the son of the late George W., Sr. and Patricia Pitsenbarger.

George retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

His is survived by his two children, Tiffany Terry of Jacksonville, FL, Robert Earl Pitsenbarger of VA Beach, VA and five grandchildren, along with his brother Robert P. Pitsenbarger (Jennifer).

Jack Beale departed this earthly life to be with the lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Born December 1, 1925, he was a son of the late Willie Augusta and Edna Harvell Beale. Mr. Beale proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a signalman on the USS DE 352. He was a member of Waverly Congregational Christian Church, a member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club, a past President of the Peanut Growers Association, and a former director of the Bank of Sussex and Surry. Mr. Beale owned and operated Owens Grove Farm where he grew crop and raised livestock.

Irvin Ray Knight, 78, went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Ned and Agnes Knight. He was predeceased by his brother Cecil Knight and a grandson Will Stephens.

Irvin attended Berea Christian Church in Driver and was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Planner/Estimator. He loved all sports with NASCAR being #1 and his pets especially Reese’s Cup aka Bo.
