Thomas Palmer Johnson, Jr. died Friday, June 22, 2018.  He was 83.

Born and raised in Chesapeake, VA, he was the son of Thomas Palmer Johnson and Charlotte Hall Johnson.

He leaves his wife of 37 years, Doris P. Johnson, his sons Thomas P. Johnson, III and Craig L. Johnson and his wife Joanna B. Johnson, his daughter Dawn A. Schenk and her husband Brain Schenk, grandsons David P. Johnson and significant other Joey Depaola, Jack L. Johnson, Delano B. Johnson, and his beloved dog Maggy.  He is also survived by the Mother of his two sons, June B. Johnson.

He graduated from Virginia Tech and was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation.   For years he was an active member of the Bethlehem Christian Church, serving as a Deacon and member of the Men’s Fellowship. He was also active in the Bethlehem Ruritan Club.  An avid Sports fan, he coached many Little League Teams in multiple sports during his early adulthood. A pet lover, he also volunteered for the Suffolk Humane Society.  He loved attending the “Highway Dept. Retiree Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club” and catching up with old friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11:00 am at Bethlehem Christian Church, 1549 Holland Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434, with a reception following in the Graham Hall. The family is being served by R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences may be offered at
