Robert Hugh Paull

Suffolk, VA
04.30.1944 - 02.12.2021
West Virginia

Robert "Bob" Hugh Paull, 76, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021.  He was born in Wellsburg, West Virginia, to the late James and Helen Paull.

All who knew Bob found him to be a caring, generous, humble, kind, and wise person.  As a youth, he developed integrity and a work ethic after watching his parents manage their successful family business, Eagle Manufacturing Company. He graduated from West Virginia University and served as a Navy Reservist.  He was a loving father to his children and was a compassionate and understanding Licensed Clinical Social Worker for many years.  Bob worked tirelessly every week, even up to right before his untimely departure from this earth, because he enjoyed helping others so much.  In his spare time, he also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Pat, traveling on family trips, walking or riding his bike, and watching a good football game.  He was an active member in his church, Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach.  Everyone that knew Bob loved his easygoing personality, his ability to listen and give sound advice, and his spontaneous sense of humor.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Patricia "Pat" Paull; son, Damon Paull (Olcay); son, Travis Paull (Amanda); son, David Fulgham (Stephanie); daughter, Sharon Fulgham; daughter, Janet Isaacs (Scott); brother, James “Jim” Paull (Margaret Sandra), sister, Helen Nickles (Bill); and sister, Laura Miller; grandchildren, Deniz, Devyn, Angela, Grace, Christie, Caleb, William, Ryan, Benjamin, and Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Amelia.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  R.W Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory in Suffolk, VA is serving the family.  Condolences may be registered online at

Whether riding his bicycle or walking in the neighborhood, Bob always took the time to stop and talk with me. I never saw Bob without a smile on his face. Donna and I have Pat and the family in our thoughts and prayers. Charlie Henderson

Such sad news. Paul was a great neighbor and just a truly kind and generous person. We shared many talks about our families, travels and of course, our yards. I will always remember Paul with fondness. Tom and I send out our prayers for peace to Pat and the family.

My conolence to the family of Mr Paul. I got to know of him when he counseled me and my young sons when I became a single father in the early 1980's . I found him to be such a gentle soul and down to earth without any appearances of racial bias . I have thought about him over the years how he was such a big help to me to help me stay grounded to the tasks at hand and supportive in my new role of working and taking care of my sons whom I was able to see grow up and have families of their own . Just another testimony to add a smile in your hearts to let you know that others got a chance to see what you already knew about your loved one. May GOD give you strength and comfort during this time of mourning, knowing that your joy will arrive in due season . BLESSINGS upon the entire family IN JESUS NAME.

Bob was such a friendly, caring person. He will be missed at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Pat, I remember Bob as a "roomie" on a Cursillo weekend. in the Diocese of Southern Virginia. He was so helpful to me because I snored so badly that he told me I needed to have a sleep study. Sure enough, I needed a CPAP! We also went to Sussex II for a Kairos weekend! I enjoyed you two in church! Just to let you and the family know of my prayers for all of you in your time of grief. Now Bob is at peace. May he rise in glory.

Phil and I are saddened by the loss of our dear neighbor. Bob has become a friend and the best neighbor anyone could have. We will miss him very much and pray God's comfort and peace will see Pat and the family through this difficult time.

I am absolutely heartbroken by this loss. Hussein had the pleasure of knowing and appreciating Bob's kind soul for only a brief 7 years but I was privileged to know and adore him for almost 30. Bob always took time to speak and exchange a kind word, joke or just a smile whether during his evening walks or while riding his bicycle. He had the uncanny gift of making you feel important and appreciated as a neighbor and human being. Pat, I can not begin to imagine the gravity of your loss. Our love and prayers for peace are shared with you today and always;)

Our outings with Bob to ODU Basketball games are treasured memories as are the conversations about our shared love for the Mountaineers. As Michael and Cecilia's friend and coworker at Eden, he always brought a bright presence and calming influence to the workplace. Love and prayers to Pat and the family.

Our neighborhood just won't seem the same without Bob. He always had a smile, a kind
word, and always time to say hi. The world was definitely a softer and more understanding place with Bob in it.
