03.17.1956 - 11.28.2018
Birthplace
Virginia

Randy Merrill Jones, age 62, died November 28, 2018 in Richmond, VA at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk, Virginia. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and loyal friend. He was the son of the late Jobie Thomas Jones and Marie Warren Jones.

Randy, affectionately known as Big R, worked at Lockwood Brothers Crane and Rigging for 28 years and was a local Iron Workers Union member throughout his career. He was an incredible craftsman to whom everyone turned for help and the hardest working man you could meet. Randy’s devotion to his horses, Rocky and Rose, was a prime example of his lifelong love of animals and big, caring heart. When he wasn’t working on his farm and classic cars, Randy was serving his family and spending precious time with his best friend, Linda.

Randy was a quiet man who was purposeful with his words but spoke even greater volumes with his character.  Randy was able to inspire and encourage his children and those who knew him to live life with integrity and purpose, and that anything worth doing, was worth doing right and with your whole heart.

Randy is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Linda Mears Jones, four children Wesley Jones, Jobi Jones, Mandy Spivey, Randall Jones and wife Taylor Everson-Jones; three grandchildren Whitney Jones, Tessa Johnson, Julie Jones; and two brothers and sisters-in-law Calvin and Evelyn Jones, and Dan and Susan Jones.

The family would like to thank the Sentara Obici ICU Staff and the St. Mary’s ICU Staff for the love and care given to Randy during his time with them.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2 PM in the R.W. Baker & Co Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. Suffolk by Rev. Michael D. Halley. Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Saturday from 6 to 7:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to The American Liver Foundation and the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House in association with St. Mary’s Hospital of Richmond. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com

Calvin, Evelyn, Dan, Susan and family. It's been many years since I have seen Randy but remember him very well. It's good to know that he still loved horses. The horses gave me so much love. I have always thought a lot of the Jones Family. Many memories showing horses with Jobi and Marie Jones. We had so much fun. Kenny and I send our thoughts and prayers. We will see you soon.
