I attended NSA K-12 and was a couple years younger than Nick growing up but was very good friend's with the Lyle's down the street. Nick was always around in the play group, full of energy and exposing us to the new, "cool" things like skateboarding and different types of music. In high school, I would continually run into Nick and admired his care-free willingness to live life to the fullest.

While attending college, I would gather frequently with friends from Suffolk or during summers in Nags Head. I would run into Nick every once in a while, and what I recall being so true in each occurrence was his constant smile, laughter and wanting others to enjoy the moment.

A few years after graduating college, I decided to make a positive life change. Once again, my path crossed with Nick's but it was 7 years after that decision. We reconnected through this mutual bond/endeavor in 2015 when I moved back to Suffolk. It was wonderful to see clear, unfiltered emotion from him, whether happy, sad or Nick comforting another person. The group of people walking through this same change really cared about Nick and were drawn to him for the same reason I was and most all were during his life -- his energy, smile and unabated truth were powerful and comforting. I am extremely grateful I was able to share that experience with him, in addition to the many other periods where our lives intersected.

I pray that his parents, brother, and daughters are okay and have the light of God shine on them. Condolences.
