Marion Hebron Proffitt, age 84, a resident of Claremont, VA, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at her home with her family by her side. Born in Steubenville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Gertrude Caudle Hebron and the widow of Clarence Wesley Proffitt.
Mrs. Proffitt went to school in Norfolk, VA and worked as a bookkeeper. She later became Vice President of Colonial Mortgage Corporation of D.C.
At the age of 67, Marion became an avid sport kite enthusiast, holding memberships in The American Kite Flyer's Association, The Eastern League Sport Kite Association, The Richmond Air Force Kite Club, and The Wings Over Washington Kite Club. She was actively involved in competitions all over the eastern United States and won many trophies. A loving mother and faithful wife, Marion was loved by all who knew her and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Evelyn Morris and Barbara Murphy of King and Queen County, VA; one brother, Dean Hebron of Lyndhurst, VA; three children, Kathy Tiller of Disputanta, VA, Kelly Proffitt of Claremont, VA and Ronald Proffitt of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 2, 2014 at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel 11414 General Mahone Hwy Wakefield, VA 23888 from 2 to 4 pm. A graveside service will be private at Wakefield Cemetery. Condolences may be posted at www.rwbakerfh.com.
