Margaret Holland Branton

Margaret Holland Branton

Suffolk, VA
12.18.1930 - 01.01.2021

Margaret Holland Branton passed into eternal rest on January 1, 2021 after reaching her ninetieth birthday. She was born to Octavia Doughtie Holland and William Sylvester Holland. She graduated from Holland High School in the class of 1949. She married Robert Ralph Branton Sr. in January of 1950, who preceded her in death in 1994. She gardened, cooked, and was the glue that kept her family together. She worked hard to raise her six beloved children and could whip up a meal to feed their family of eight like no one else. She was a member of Whaleyville United Methodist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Robert Branton Jr., Bill Branton and Phil Barnes, Holland and Claire Branton, Carrol and Diana Branton, Peggy Branton and Sydna Lindblad, Shirley and Bob Lewis. Grandchildren: Holly and Les Babb, Rachel and Chris Benton, Joe and Ashley Branton, Jennifer and Jesse Goodwin, Jordan and Sherri Branton, Annie Lewis and Spencer Garland, Amanda Lewis and Bennet Henkel.  Great grandchildren: Tydus and Lincoln Goodwin; Alice, Joy, and Beau Branton; and Elizabeth Garland-Lewis. She found great joy in her friendships with Sister-in-law Evelyn Clements; loving, faithful, and loyal caregiver Venora Worrell; cherished friend of the family Karen Sallaz; life-long friend Doris Glenn; devoted nurse and dear friend Carolyn Bryant Blackford; and her multitude of cats.

A private graveside service will be held in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family. Condolences may be registered at

SO many good memories of time with the Branton family and so many things that happened along the way with your Momma that just make me laugh out loud. I truly felt like part of the family and got to experience things I never thought I would....riding through Whaleyville with pans of scrapple in the back of the pickup, riding motorcycles and tuna fish and eggs. Will always hold those memories dear and know that I will be thinking of the whole family during this hard time. I can hear Grandma "Tavy" welcoming her....come on up here you jackrabbit! Love you guys.

So sorry to hear about your loss, my prayers are with you. Margaret was a very special person.

Just found out today that your mother passed away. I know that all of you loved your mother so very much. She had to be a strong woman to raise the six of you! I know she was proud of each of you. I am sure you were her reason for living. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Your friendship has always been special to me. It's a shame we all have to get old, but it beats the alternative. God be with you!!
