Joan Marie McCarty Gray, from the community of Eclipse, VA, died peacefully in her home on November 16, 2018.

Joan was a devoted daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, mother, mother- in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a smile for anyone who came to their home in Eclipse, where she and her husband, Johnnie C. Gray lived for more than 65 years.

She lived her life by her faith daily with kind words and loving deeds that she shared with so many, her family, as well as friends.  Raised in the faith of her parents, she attended her church joyfully and embraced it as part of her family for her entire life.  Her example, and her loving heart will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and all those whose lives she has touched over the years.

She was born to the late John Vincent and Elizabeth Rose Driscoll McCarty in Roanoke, VA, in 1932. Preceding her in death were 2 of her sisters: Rita Driscoll from Roanoke, VA and Sister Marie McCarty, SCN.  Also preceding her in death was their 3rd son, Barry Vincent Gray.

Left to cherish her memory at the home is her loving husband of 65 ½ years, Johnnie Clyde Gray (J.C.). Also, of the home, her daughter, Mary Kay Kelly, who faithfully and lovingly cared for her in these last years of her life.

She is also survived by their eldest son, J. Mike Gray (Paula) from Eclipse, VA, their 4 children:  Jason Gray and his son, Jaxon; Jeremiah Gray (Jennie) and their 2 children, Jacob and Jadyn; Ellie Gray Holland (Bryan) and their 2 children, Bryce and Grayson; Joshua Gray (Julie) and their daughter, Harper.

And their 2nd son, S. Patrick Gray (Wanda) from Smithfield, VA and his son, Johnnie N. Gray.

And their 3rd son, Barry V. Gray’s children--Zachary Gray and Sarah Gray, Franklin, VA.

And their 4th Son, Shaun M. Gray from Eclipse, VA

And daughter, Mary K. Kelly, of the home, and her children:  Christopher Johnson, Theresa J. Latusa (BJ), Jessica Kelly, and Kathleen Kelly and her son, Tristan Kemp.

My sincere condolences goes out to the family during this difficult time. May you find a measure of comfort in God's promise at Revelation 21:3,4 where we look forward to a time when there will be no more pain and death any more.

Hope

The death of a loved one is the most devastating experience a family can face. At times, the pain of the loss will seem unbearable. Please know that there are friends who care about you and your family during this difficult time and more importantly Psalm 34:18 tells us that "God is near to those that are broken at heart. We pray that Jehovah the God of all comfort is with your family during this difficult time of grief. Questions will come up about why do we suffer and die? Please go to www.jw.org to get satisfying answers to these and other questions about life. Our prayers are with you and your family.
