James Christian Kalwite
On January 19, 2019, Jimmy Kalwite, 42 years old and a native of Somerton, passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his family following a long illness. He is survived by his father Louis Kalwite Jr., mother Evelyn Flowers, brother Louis Kalwite III, and sister Katherine Kalwite. Also surviving are his wife Jennifer “Dinky” Jernigan and their children Jada, Abigail, and James “Bubby”, mother-in-law Delores Jernigan, sister-in-law and “first baby” Maggie Jernigan Tedder (James), brother-in-law Chris Myers (Krissy), sister-in-law Gracie Jones, and an extended family of aunts, nephews, and cousins.
A special thanks to Vidant Heart Hospital, Dr. Amico, Dr. Alwair, Dr. Anciano, Dr. Outlaw, Skip Bangley, the physicians, nurses, care partners, and support staff for the care, dedication, and humanity that they showed to Jimmy until the end. Thank you to Somerton United Methodist Church, friends, and neighbors for their generosity and acts of kindness during this entire journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at R.W. Baker Funeral Home located at 509 W. Washington Street Suffolk, VA 23434. Following the service, a celebration of life will be held at 160 W. Washington Street. A special thanks to Heather (Harrell) Ferguson and Brian F. Saunders & Associates for the use of their space and Crystal Babb for all of your support and assistance in facilitating these arrangements.
