Irene Alderman Pinner

Irene Alderman Pinner born on March 1, 1919, passed away on September 18, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Nella and William A. Alderman of Galax, VA. She was predeceased by her husband, John Webb Pinner, Jr.

Irene attended the University of N.C Women’s College and then graduated from Longwood College in 1941. She taught in both the Nansemond County and Suffolk City Schools. A long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, she served as the choir director and organist for over 30 years. She was also a member of the St. Paul’s Alter Guild. She was active in the community and was a member of the Nansemond River Garden Club, Suffolk Social Club, Suffolk Historical Society, Suffolk Art League, and Riddick’s Folly.

Irene is survived by a daughter Rebecca Leigh Pinner of Richmond, VA; son, John W. Pinner, III and wife Ann; grandsons J. Webb Pinner IV of Wakefield, RI, and James Carrington Pinner and wife Kristin of Edwards, CO; great granddaughter Charley Jane Pinner; 3 nieces and 3 nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 213 N. Main Street, Suffolk VA 23434 by Dr. Keith Emerson with burial to follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank Lake Prince Woods and Heartland Hospice for all their loving care and support given to Irene and the family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to St. Paul’s Church or the Benevolent Fund at Lake Prince Woods. The R.W. Baker & Company Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
