Gregory Mark Williams

Suffolk, VA
04.29.1974 - 04.15.2021
Birthplace
Norfolk, VA

Gregory Williams, 46, of Suffolk, VA went to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 15, 2021.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Henley and Anna Mae Williams, and Frank and Doris Costen.

Greg was born April 29, 1974, to Willie and Carolyn Williams.  As a child, Greg came to know the Lord as a member of Mimosa Road Bible Chapel.  Greg and his family attended Nansemond River Baptist Church for many years.  In 2014, they joined Liberty Live Church in Suffolk, where he served faithfully.  He will be remembered fondly by the many elementary and middle school students that he taught each Sunday.

Greg was a graduate of Greenbrier Christian Academy and attended Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth, where he met Erika, to whom he was happily married to for 24 years.  He was employed with Rite Aid for 25 years, but most recently was the operations manager at Coastal Industrial.

As much as he loved the Washington Redskins and his dog Pepper, there was nothing Greg loved more than his children, Matt and Riley, who will always remember his corny jokes, many pranks, and unconditional love.  He will be remembered by all, for his larger than life personality and his ability to make friends wherever he went.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Erika Williams; children, Matthew Williams and Riley Williams; his parents, Willie and Carolyn Williams; brother Chris Williams; sister, Kim Wiliams; sisters-in-law Jean Rush (Mike) and Lilian Zollars (Drew); brother-in-law, Randy Carper; nieces and nephews, Nicole, Jessica, and Monica Rush, Katelyn and Zachary Carper; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held Monday, April 19, 2021, at 11 AM at Liberty Live Church in Harbour View officiated by Pastor Chip Dean.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Greg’s memory to the Portsmouth Humane Society, 4022 Seaboard Court, Portsmouth, VA 23701. Baker-Foster Funeral Home of Suffolk, VA is serving the family. Condolences may be made at RWBakerFH.com.

Our love goes out to this wonderful family. Greg leaves behind a great legacy of devotion to the Lord and to His church. God’s word says it best, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!” It’s hard to let go of those we love even for a little while but we have His promise, “Joy comes in the morning.”

I used to work at Rite Aid with Greg. He was kind, funny, and always a bright light in the place. It's been a while since I saw him, but I will always remember talking to him about the Redskins and how good or bad(mostly bad) they were doing. I am so sorry for this loss. The family is in my prayers and thoughts.

We were greatly saddened by the news of Greg's home calling . He was a part of our family as he and our kids were so close
It was such a joy to witness his maturing into a fine young man who continued to honor his Lord
I had the priviledge of officiating at his and Erika's wedding and watched their family grow.
Our prayers of comfort are to his family who are so saddened by his passing but can take comfort that we will see Greg again.

Greg was a friend and a brother. We shared many times of you and sorrow through various trials and tribulations. I always called him my “brother from a different mother.”

"He that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice." Prov 23:24-25
Greg was a source of great joy to his parents, to Erika, Matt & Riley and to many of us who knew him. Greg was a gentle person with an easy smile that belayed his personality. His trust in Christ and his desire to teach young children about the Lord warms our hearts knowing the things he learned as a child. We all will miss him greatly. Our prayers are with the family in these difficult days and the days ahead. We take comfort in knowing that he is present with the Lord and we shall be reunited in a coming day.

I am so terribly sorry for this sorrow you are experiencing, please accept my deepest condolences. It has been quite a number of years since I’ve seen Greg, but I was saddened at the news. I hold many fond memories of spending time with he and Erika during their years of dating and in the early years of married life. He was always fun and welcoming and had a smile to share. They opened their home to us for fellowship and fun and I truly enjoyed those friendships we shared. Please know he touched many lives, throughout his lifetime, and his memory will live on. Praying Gods comfort and peace over your family.

We are very sorry to hear about Greg. The whole family will be in our prayers! I have great memories of Greg when we were in our teens at the Chesapeake Bible Conference. Greg was always smiling and always had something funny to say to brighten the room! Praying for comfort during this difficult time!

Greg was your greatest friend, he would do anything to help a friend or co worker. His humor and love of life was contagious and he’d pick you up on your worst day. I’m very proud to say I knew Greg and his love for family and God. Erika, we are here for you if you and the kids need anything. May Greg Rest In Peace, we’ll miss you deeply.

Debbie Pence

My deepest condolences to the Williams family. I loved hanging out with Greg at Grove City and on our family visits to Virginia. Greg love for the Lord was as contagious as his smile and laugh. I only wish we had more opportunity to hang out as we got older.

Mark Henry & Family

Reading of Greg's passing was difficult. He was an old friend from our elementary school days at Faith. There were no more than 12 kids in our class so we spent a lot of timing playing together. Recess at the playground, transformers, GI Joe, Star Wars... One time Greg and I even went to a professional wrestling event at the Hampton Coliseum and seeing our heroes and villains up close was awesome! I'll remember Greg and these times for the rest of my life and will rejoice in seeing him again one day!

I was so sorry to hear of Greg’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you Erika, Matt and Riley as well as all that knew Greg. Matt and Riley’s Bus Driver, 🙏🏻🙏🏻
