Gilbert Henry Whitley, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27, 2018. He was the son of the late Gilbert Henry Whitley, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Williams. Gil was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Smithfield. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and retired from Newport News Shipyard after 40 years of employment. Gil was a loving and devoted husband, daddy, “Pop Pop”, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda B. Whitley; daughter, Tammy Mouring and husband, Ken; son, Timothy G. Whitley and wife, Angela; grandchildren, Jayson, Molly, Megan, Jeffery, Tyler, Nicolas, Kenny, Kevin, Charles, Kenson, Adam, and Samantha; brothers, James Whitley and wife, Karen, Michael Whitley, Ronnie Whitley and wife, Luanne, and Mark Whitley and wife, Rhonda.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, October 1, 2018 at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel with Pastor Greg Gray officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting memorial donations in memory of Gil. Condolences may be posted at
