Fred Allen Wright of Waverly passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born July 15, 1940, he was a son of the late Fred Hoffman Wright and Delphia M. Perry Wright. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. Fred served his country in the U.S. Navy. After retirement from the U.S. Navy, he worked as a machinist for Metro Machine Shipyard and the Virginia Department of Transportation. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Johnson.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Linda Jean Wright; his daughters, Debra Ann Hulker and her husband, Dennis and Kimberly Ann Overton and her husband, Randall; his son, Gary D. Peterson and Jean Longa; grandchildren, Jenna E. Overton, Gregory Hulker, James Overton, Jade Baker, and Jewel Baker, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, August 11, 2017 at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 noon to 1:30 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at 3:00 pm at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kindred Hospice, 8000 Franklin Farms Drive, Suite 100, Richmond, Virginia 23229. Condolences may be posted at

Fred, you will be so missed. You were a one of a kind and we love you.
Linda you are loved and you did such a fantastic job being Fred's caregiver. His last words on earth were to you, "I love you". I pray you find peace and consolation in knowing he's no longer suffering.
