Debra “Debbie” Kight Cutchins, 65, best friend and wife of Cornelius Thomas Cutchins for 43 years passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2020 and joined her parents, Billy and Jean Kight, in heaven with their Lord and Savior.  Also, waiting to see her were her maternal grandparents, Preston and Eva Brickhouse and her paternal grandparents, Johnie Kight and Daisy Cahoon.

Debbie was a member of “The Christian Youth Singers” during High School and for some years afterwards.  She played the piano and travelled with the singing group spreading God’s love to people in North Carolina and Virginia.

In 1973, Debbie graduated from Gates County High School.  After High School, she attended Mount Olive College and earned her Associates Degree.

She was employed by Planters Peanut in Suffolk, Virginia until her division was transferred to New Jersey.  After this, she went to CIBA Specialty Chemicals on Wilroy Road in Suffolk, Virginia.  She was the Pricing Coordinator for CIBA at the time she was diagnosed with Mantle Cell B Lymphoma in 2011.  She experienced many victories in her battle against the cancer that eventually was defeated when God took her home to be with Him.

Debbie is survived by her son, Richard; her sisters, Billie Jo Eure (Colby); Sheryl Moore (Eddie); and her brother Mike Kight (Janet). Her sisters-in-law Sara Gibbs (James) and Janet Gillespie (Jerry).

She was a beautiful wife and mother.  She will be missed and loved by her brother and sisters always and by her many friends.  Her nieces and nephews enjoyed growing up with her love and enjoyed spending time and took every chance available to spend time with Aunt Deb and Uncle Tommy.

Nieces:  Matina Gillespie, Michelle Kline (Tim), Shannon McLamb (Scott)

Serving God, reading the Bible and spending time with her family was Debbie’s favorite things to do.  She enjoyed fishing, photography and has many beautiful pictures.  Her photography has been published in the Suffolk Living Magazine and she has also won ribbons and recognition from her contest entries.  Debbie was a very talented painter and had mastered the art of calligraphy.  She enjoyed employing her talents to help other people whenever she could.

She will also be missed by her pets that loved her and that she loved.

The love of Jesus shining through Debbie was refreshing and welcoming to everyone she met. She taught the children at URA the Word of God during Sunday school in ways that brought them closer to the Father. The joy she brought to them was evident as they shared what they learned with their parents at the end of service. Her beautiful smile made me smile each time I saw her. I am glad to have had the opportunity to know her. She was a very special sister in Christ. As our Lord is welcoming her home, we are saying our goodbyes with love and tears. To all the family and friends, my sympathies and prayers for comfort from the Holy Spirit be upon you.

I worked with Debbie for many years at Ciba/Basf... she was not just a coworker but a friend. She was an awesome lady and will be missed by many.

Tommy & family, I always enjoyed working with you and Debbie at Planters. It has been great to run into various places and say "hi" and catch up on our lives. I am so sorry your sweetheart is gone. She'll be waiting for you just over the hill. She is well and comfortable with God. You have my sympathy at this sad time. Janet Brinkley

Sorry to hear about Debra. But she sure is rejoicing with the Lord now. If we can help with you and your family we are only a phone call away.

Tommy, Billie Jo and family, I saw Debbie’s notice in the Virginian Pilot and hoped it wasn’t really her! For some reason, I remembered Cornelius was your name Tommy! I have missed all of you at StingRays and thought of you often!
Prayers for all of you, especially Tommy!
Love and prayers, Etta
