Cathy Darden

Cathy Darden

Suffolk, VA
10.28.1957 - 10.27.2019

Catherine Elizabeth "Cathy" Darden of Suffolk, VA passed away, surrounded by her lifelong friends, all too soon on October 27, 2019 from the effects of a terrible and viscous cancer.

She is predeceased by her father, Everett Hale Newman Jr. and her brother, Everett Hale "Haley" Newman III.

She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Bradshaw, her son, Josh Darden, her son Wheeler Darden and his wife Jennifer Darden and their two beautiful children Zadie Mae and Chase Darden, her brother Walt Newman, her sister Laurie DiPadova-Stocks, and, last but not least, her sister and best friend Angela Givens Newman as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Her absence will leave a hole in our hearts which will be impossible to fill. We will miss her terribly.

All who knew her will miss her vivacity, candor, and wit. She greeted everyone she met with a welcoming smile. She was a good and loyal friend and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. When she wasn't finding ways to spoil her family she enjoyed traveling and spending time on her beloved Grady White. She was also a trailblazer, being the first woman ever offered membership into the Crittenden Eclipse & Hobson Ruitan Club.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will take place on November 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the CE&H Community Hall. Condolences may be registered at

No words to express my sympathy for the Newman/Darden families. Cathy was a good friend who made me feel so welcome when I moved to Eclipse. She and her family embraced me as if I'd always been there. I am so saddened that her battle ended this way, especially after her retirement - so much life to live, things to do. Alas, God had other plans. Adele Farmer, I know your heart is breaking - we will all prop you up and remember what a compassionate caregiver you were for Cathy these last two years.

Phyllis S. Wells

Adelle I am so very sorry for your loss. Many people go through life never having the special love that you had. Cathy I never got to know you but I know that you were deeply loved. Rest In Peace.
