Bettie Ashby Brittain Forner, lovingly called "Aunt Bettie" and "Ms Bettie" by many who knew and loved her, age 92 of Suffolk, Virginia, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 31st, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Dennis H. Forner and her only child "Betsy" A. Forner. She was also predeceased by her beloved parents Frank and Cornelia Brittain, and her grandparents Commander Julien Miller M.D. and his wife Edith as well as Walter and Exa Brittain. She was survived by her Brother-in-Law Clifford L. Forner and her only niece Diane Forner Doering as well as many Grand Nieces and Nephews in Minnesota.
Bettie's friends and family meant so much to her! In fact, her one on one talks over coffee in that precious kitchen of hers were priceless, enjoyed by all who partook, and brought sunshine to her day! She love to share of her many happy memories with her much loved parents and grandparents, and the wonderful growing up years with her family and friends in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was blessed with 58 years of marriage to her husband Dennis until his passing in 2007. They owned, ran, and enjoyed their Antique Store, "Renrof's Antique's" that was located in Grandy, NC prior to selling and retiring to Suffolk, Virginia.
Bettie was a lifelong member of Saint Johns Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, Virginia. She dearly loved Art, All Flowers, and All Animals. In her own words, "I couldn't imagine life without any of them" and we know that to be true in the beautiful oil paintings she painted and had hanging throughout her home, in how she lovingly attended to her flowers in her yard, the pure enjoyment she received from being given a beautiful bouquet of flowers, most often made by Tim Johnson of Johnson's Gardens located in Suffolk, Virginia. Her love and concern for animals was just as strong. Each one of her pets that she owned and loved were a cherished and "faithful companion". For that very reason, she was a long time supporter of the Humane Society Animal Shelter.
Bettie requested a private remembrance of her with her closest friends and family. The family wishes to personally thank Heartland Hospice of Suffolk, Virginia and Dean Longo and Staff from Visiting Angels Living Assistance of Norfolk, Virginia who came alongside Bettie's family and friends when needed most and lovingly cared for Bettie within her own home these past two and a half weeks.
