Billy and Becky and your entire family, I am so sorry for your lose. I have known your family my entire life and if there is anything myself and Randy can do for you'll please let us know. Ashley was the first person to ever babysit Zachary and then Hollis and Brett kept him. Your family holds such a special place in our hearts. We are praying for each and everyone of you.

Debra Joyner

I am so very sorry to hear about Ashley's passing. She was the sweetest, kindest person growing up. I will always remember her caring heart and beautiful spirit. Sending all my love to her children, husband, and all of the Gwaltneys.

Courtney Walters Pohlit

Our hearts are with you as well as our prayers. May the presence of the Lord be with you during this time.

David and Nancy Whitt

I am so sorry for your loss. Ashley and I worked at Lockheed for the last 13 years. She was so quick to smile and always was the brightest light in the room. She was not only kind to everyone but the smartest in the room. We took trips to Georgia together and she was also the fastest driver on the highway. 🙂. Her laugh was contagious and I’ve missed seeing her beautiful face. My heart breaks for you all but rejoice she is now comfortable and full of life. My prayers will continue to be with the whole family, Charlie and the kids.

Hannah Johnson

My heart goes out to your whole family. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Laurel Miller

Bobby and I are so sorry for your loss. Our hearts go out to the entire family. May God wrap you in his arms at this most difficult time in your life.

Nancy Rountree

I had the pleasure of getting to know Ashley while we were in the same development program at Lockheed from 2009-2011, and then would run into her from time-to-time at company events (even though I was based in California). She was such a sweet and genuine person, that was clear from the moment you met her. I enjoyed getting to know her and hearing updates from her as her family grew. She was a loving wife and mother at home, and a true and capable professional in the workplace. She will be dearly missed by her Lockheed family across the country. Our prayers are with her family.

Ryan Moore

I had the honor of getting to know Ashley while working with her for the past 13 years at Lockheed Martin. She only had one fault in that she could never say no to anything. Whatever it was, she was willing to get in there and try and I never saw her fail at anything. She was quite a woman. One that I'll never forget. She always brought joy with her, and I am thankful for getting to know her. Charlie, Charles, and Katherine you were very blessed to get all of her love, and I will be praying for you all.

Steve Sebastian

I am so so sorry to hear of Ashley’s death. I remember playing with her when we were just little girls. My prayers and thoughts for your family for the days ahead and life without her.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I am heartbroken to hear this news. Ashley was a ray of sunshine and one of the most lovely people I’ve ever met. She was so warm, kind, and always helping others; she was a true Zeta Lady. Prayers to you all!

Lauren Nardone Carollo

I had the pleasure of knowing Ashley through working with her at Lockheed Martin the last 11 years. She had this ability to radiate kindness, warmth and and enthusiasm for everything she touched. I loved working things with her because I just felt energized! We traded “mom moments” whenever we engaged at the office. She came alive when she talked about Charlie, Charles and Katherine and recounted stories (pride filled mom victories and just silliness and funny engagements between her children). Her deep love for her family was evident anytime we talked about any family member. I’m so sorry that Ashley was taken from her loved ones so soon. I’m grateful to her family that they shared Ashley with all of us during the work day because she brought joy and determination to everyone she engaged with.

Rachel Cavin

I am heartbroken to hear of the loss of this beautiful soul and ray of light. Ashley was truly one of the most kindhearted people I’ve ever met. She brought a joy and positivity that was contagious at Virginia Tech, and I’ll always remember her spirit & megawatt smile. I am so sorry for her family. Sending all my prayers!

Brooke Mowry

Charlie - As one who recently lost someone I loved dearly to cancer myself I was saddened by the news of your wife's passing. Although I didn't know her she sounds like a great woman and I know you will miss her a lot. Take comfort in knowing that the trials and troubles of this life are behind her. Grace and peace to you and your family.

Ken Moore

Our hearts are truly broken to learn of the loss of our dear friend, Ashley. Her fight these past several years has been astounding, and her positive spirit throughout was something to behold and aspire to. What a shining example of faith and optimism. We've been friends since we met in 2005 upon starting at GE and have been blessed to consider Ashley and Charlie as close friends since that time. As Katherine's Godparents, Katie and I welcome the sacred obligation to provide love, care, and guidance to both herself and Charles in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. Our love and condolences to the Smith and Gwaltney families. Rest in peace Ashley.

Eric & Katie Bonini

It has been an honor and my personal privilege to know her and work along side her. She loved her family first. She always put others ahead of herself. She provided encouragement to everyone she came in contact with. I pray that God will comfort you as you celebrate her life.

I am very blessed that Ashley lived across the hall from me in East Campbell our freshman year at Virginia Tech. Her big blue eyes and warm smile brightened every single moment I was with Ashley. She was incredibly beautiful inside and out, so amazingly kind and compassionate, smart, funny, organized, positive, I could go on and on! I didn’t get to see her as a mom but I know how much she wanted to be a mom and I know she was awesome and loved her kids immensely. My heart just breaks for you guys. Charlie, I remember when she met you :) You two shared a very sweet relationship and I know you made her feel so special. My deepest condolences to the family. She has always been an angel.

See you again someday sweet girl. Rest In Peace.

I was so very sad to learn the news of Ashley’s passing. My memories of Ashley center around her kindness. I’m positive that she was a wonderful mother and that she passes on those traits to her children. Please know that I’m thinking and praying for her family.

Kim Aston

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Ashley at Lockheed Martin for over 10 years. From the moment I met her, I could see that she was a genuine person who cared about her work but cared even more deeply about her coworkers. She always made time for the people around her and treated everyone with the same respect whether they were a company vice president or an entry level employee. She had the rare ability to infuse kindness into every situation regardless of how stressful or tense it had become. I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing and my heart aches for her family. I have two young sons and I will be a very proud father if my boys grow up and share 1/10 of the kindness with the world that Ashley shared on a daily basis. I hope Ashley’s family takes some comfort in the fact that her light will shine on forever in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her, may she rest in peace.

It was an honor to know Ashley as a kind, committed, and joyous athlete, student, friend, sister, and daughter. I have no doubt she thrived as a wife, mother, and professional, too. May we each carry her bright light with us and let it shine in the many voids she leaves behind. Sending prayers for healing and peace in the days to come. You are all so loved.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Ashley and the tremendous feelings of loss and sadness that you and your family are going through at this time. Psalm 91 has been a tremendous comfort to me at times of loss and I hope that you can find encouragement in reading it too. Knowing that she was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord is always helpful for me during these tough times. I will be praying specifically for you to have strength, comfort, and wisdom to lead your family through this valley.
Best Regards,
