Ann Phillips Harrell Nurney, 84, was peacefully delivered into God’s loving hands on June 9, 2021. She was surrounded by her loved ones at home.

She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church. One of her talents was helping others. She enjoyed volunteering at Obici Hospital and The American Red Cross. She also loved working with children and volunteered in Suffolk Public Schools and was employed by Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.

She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Frances Harrell. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Jack W. Nurney, Jr; daughters, Ann N. Davies (Jeff) and Susan N. Griffin (Mike); son, William L. Nurney (Eleanor); grandchildren, Michael Davies (Melissa), Matthew Davies, Margaret Davies, Jordan Nurney, and Jake Nurney; great- grandchildren Jonathan Davies and Hannah Grace Davies; nephews John Harlow (Vicki), David Harlow (Brenda), and Bruce Harlow; along with dear great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt love and appreciation to her daily care providers, Sandy Pauli and Patricia Copeland. Also, they are grateful to Heartland Hospice Care and indebted to the guidance and support from Amy, Carol, Angie, Kayla, Nessa, Penny, and Nikki as well as their support staff. A special thank you to Travis and Kade of Alliance Medical Equipment Company for providing exceptional service. Lastly, a family hug to Mary Edens for walking alongside the family and offering bedside care.

A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 11 AM, with The Reverend Michael Halley officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 13, 2021, from 3 to 4 PM at R.W. Baker Funeral Home and Crematory, Suffolk Chapel. Phil and I were so very sorry to learn of Ann's recent passing. So many fond memories of conversations I had with her while walking my dogs. She always asked about our children and families. I sure have missed seeing Jack in the mornings while walking the dogs as well. Our heartfelt condolences to your family as you remember the life of this wonderful woman.
