After a long courageous struggle with cancer, Cheri went to be with our Lord on January 12, 2019. Cheri was born November 15, 1958 in Oakland, Ca and was lovingly adopted by the late Ward and Dorothy Powell as an infant. Cheri was an avid lover of animals and the arts. Cheri served as a Board member for the Suffolk Humane Society and the Portsmouth Humane Society. She volunteered for the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. Cheri served as stage manager and actress for Tracy Community Theater and Stockton Community Theater in California.

Katherine G. Decker passed away at home on January 16, 2019. She is the daughter of the late Isaac and Mildred Black.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Richard Decker; son, Robert Decker; grandchildren, Kody and Kyle, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Katherine retired from Portsmouth City Schools. She graduated from Appling County High School, she went on to attend Emory University and Virginia Tech where she attained a Masters and Certificate of Advanced Studies.

Marion Charlene Towe, 93, of Windsor passed away January 12, 2019. Born in Haywood County, NC. She was the daughter of Dora Green and William L. McClure. She was preceded by her husband, John C. Towe and four brothers and four sisters. She was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church and was retired from Lipton Tea Co.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law Ronnie and Jackie Towe of Franklin. Special grandchildren, Matthew Hobbs and Jessica Davis and extended family and friends.

Catherine Savedge Schlesinger of Williamsburg passed away peacefully Friday, January 11, 2019. Born September 20, 1944, she was a daughter of the late James N. Savedge and Fay B. Savedge. She was a graduate of Randolph Macon Women’s College and resided in Williamsburg, VA for 50 years. She worked for Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for many years and at Chippokes State Park. Catherine was active in APVA, especially researching Smith’s Fort Plantation in Surry. She contributed to Surry Historical Society and enjoyed assisting her mother in genealogical research.
