Juanita Ward Speight, 95, passed away May 22, 2017. She was predeceased by parents, Cuthbert and Mary Ward, and sister, Vivian W. Felton.

She was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church and a retired elementary school teacher from Nansemond County and the City of Suffolk. She was also active in many organizations over the years.

Mary Letha Olson was born in Bland County, Virginia on May 22, 1934. She graduated from Bland High School in 1951. After graduating from McLain’s Business College she worked for the Appalachian Power Company in Bluefield, West Virginia and came to Southeast Virginia in 1955. She worked for 10 years at Fort Eustis. She and her husband were married in March of 1959 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Norge, Virginia. They moved from Williamsburg to Sussex in 1967, and became members of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer that same year.

Percy Mack Britt of Wakefield passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 16, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born June 18, 1945 in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Percy Lee Britt and Betty Jane Saunders Britt. Mack was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. He worked at R.M. Felts Packing Company for 46 years and enjoyed playing and singing music. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Red Britt, Boney Britt, Clifton Britt, Tiney Holt and Helen Fowler.

James A. Everett, 83, of Suffolk went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Annie Odell Everett on May 9, 2017. He was the son of the late Nellie Grace Everett. He was predeceased by his brothers, William Everett and Robert Earl (Buddy) Everett and his sister Mary Elizabeth Strouthers. James was an active member of Great Fork Baptist Church and the Calvin Davis Sunday School Class. He retired from VDOT in 1991.

Barbara Dempsey Monteiro, a resident of Windsor, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Born May 21, 1934 in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel Snyder Dempsey. Along with her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Monteiro.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son, Louis H. “Hank” Monteiro; a daughter-in-law, Francis G. “Penny” Monteiro, both of Windsor, Virginia; two daughters; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and two brothers.

Arleen Leona Adams of Ivor passed away peacefully Sunday, May 7, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Born September 10, 1943 in Illinois, she was one of nine children of the late Herbert and Mary Verbunt Smith. Arleen was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Arleen never met a stranger; she had a giving spirit and a kind heart. When she was not spending time with her family, she loved to go watch a movie or crochet with her friends, the SoCo Knitters and Crocheters, at the Walter Cecil Rawls library in Courtland.

William "Bill" Denison Sr. left this world to join his beloved wife Virginia "Ginny" Nell Denison in heaven on April 29, 2017 at Sentara Obici Hospital. Born in Connecticut, he was the son of the late Paul L. Denison and Charlotte G. Greene. Bill was a retired Longshoreman with ILA local 970 and a former Air Dale in the United States Navy. He had a love of boating, woodworking and ran Cypress Springs Farm OEE with his wife Ginny.

Cloyd Crockett Morris, Jr. died peacefully at MCV/VCU in Richmond, VA, Aopril 27, 2017 while surrounded by his loving family and pastor. Crockett was born on February 6, 1929 to the late Reba Tibbs Morris and CLoyd Crockett Morris, Sr. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda; brothers, Ross and Robert Morris; sister, Geneva Summerfield; and his first wife and mother of his children, Nell Wingo Morris.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Weigle; daughter, Cecile Hawkins (Carl); sons, Nathan Weigle (Robbin), Monte Weigle, Eric Weigle (Tina), and David Weigle (Sandy); eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and his sisters, Marilyn Cramer and Betty Alumbaugh. Mr. Weigle requested no funeral service and cremation will be performed by R.W.
