Betty is survived by her husband Arnold L. Ferguson; daughter Penny Lyn Hooker, sons Alan Ferguson and wife Carol, and Arlan Ferguson and wife Sherry; and brother Rick H. Arlt; and 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Donna loved cooking, painting, quilting and doing ceramics. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed volunteering at the church.

Bob graduated from Suffolk High School and served in the U.S. Army. He made a career in plastic molding working at General Electric, VA Design Pkg, Kerr Group and American Plastics. Bob was a member of the Purdie Lodge Windsor #170, and a Past Master of Ivor Lodge #291 and Indian River Lodge #252.

Brenda Joyce Francis Padgett, a lifelong resident of Waverly, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017. Born June 22, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Agnes Saunders Francis. Brenda was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired from Honeywell. Brenda loved to take trips, especially to the beach. She loved to go shopping and going out to eat. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

William Frederick Duplissey, 81, went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2017. He was the son of the late Thelma S. and Rev. Frederick J. Duplissey.

William served in the Navy, Coast Guard and the U.S. Army.  He worked for the Nansemond County Sheriff Department and the Suffolk Police Department. He retired for Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church, the Joyce Anne Harrell Sunday School Class, the Bethlehem Ruritan Club, Masonic Lodge 30 and the Shrine Club.

She was a member at West End Baptist Church. Along with her parents Margaret is predeceased by her daughter Peggy Jo and fiancée Raymond Murden.

Melanie Spivey Sawyer, 52, passed away on April 2, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband David Edward Sawyer, III and her parents Thelma Marie and James B. Spivey, Sr.

Born in Norfolk, she was formerly of Wildwood, MO where she lived with the love of her life, David, until he passed in May of 2016. Upon his death, she returned to Suffolk to be surrounded by family. She was a former member of Living Word United Methodist Church in Wildwood, MO. She was a devoted wife, and a converted Tar Heel fan, but an ECU fan at heart.

           Barbara Taylor G. Griggs passed away on March 21, 2017. She was the daughter of the late M. Alphonsa and Annie Grace Taylor Griggs. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald A. Griggs and six sisters.

            She graduated from Cypress High School and attended Radford College. She was member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Chuckatuck. She worked for the City of Suffolk in the General District Court as the Clerk of Court and retired in 1996.
