​​​​​​“Dot” Gretchen Pech Williams, 89, died at her home surrounded by her daughter Joyce, friend Lea, and her beloved babies Jacky, Jilly and Mickey, on June 21, 2017. Born August 14th, 1927 in Buffalo New York, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Viola Pech of Buffalo New York. Dot was predeceased by her favorite sister Mary Vassallo, and her brother Raymond Pech.

Dot worked as the officer manager for Williams Taxidermy Studio, owned and operated by husband F. Leonard Williams, who died in August 2006. Dot was the best mom, grandmother and friend anyone could ask for.

          Francis Ivan Carter, 79, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2017. He was the son of the late Elisabeth Kilby and Wallace E. Carter. He was preceded in death by his first wife Kathleen and a son Kenneth F. Carter.

          Francis was a member of West Suffolk Baptist Church. He retired as a First Sergeant from the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office after 30 years of service in law enforcement; and he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Suffolk Lodge #41.

Leslie Raymond Wilson, Jr. went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2017. He was the son of the late Lois C. and Leslie R. Wilson, Sr. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years Elizabeth Burroughs Wilson.

Leslie served in the US Air Force and was a member of Suffolk Christian Church. He was a great father; he was a very loyal and giving father, always making the sacrifices for the love of his family. He will be truly missed by his family.

He is survived by his son, Allan and wife Shari,  two daughters, Alyce Lyon and husband Roger, Kay Liszka and husband Rick, and four grandchildren, Mychelle Flachsmann, Keri Murray, Katie Ruehl and Stacy Casavan. 4 greatgrandchildren, Christopher Hudson, Nathan and Audrey Ruehl, and Braden Casavan.

Patricia Irene Bunner of Waverly passed away peacefully Friday, June 9, 2017. Born July 31, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Robert Donald Armishaw and Thelma Lorraine McCormick Armishaw. Patricia loved her animals and spending time outdoors, especially at the ocean. She has a gift for planting and growing flowers.

Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Robert Armishaw; companion and friend, Fred E. Ramsch, Jr. and friend, James Bunner. Patricia will also be deeply missed by her church family at Faith Community Church.

Pat was a former manager of IGA in Wakefield and worked for Ann’s Dress Shop for many years, but the time she spent with her family is what she cherished the most. She was a loving and devoted mom, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Eunice Rountree Whitley, 81, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2017. She was the daughter of late Edith Hayes and Gerald C. Rountree and was predeceased by her husband of 52 years James Lee Whitley and by her brothers Vernon Kirkman Rountree, James Edward Rountree and Thomas Earl Rountree.

Eunice was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church, and member of the Faith Seekers Sunday School Class. She retired from Lipton Tea with 31 years of service. She worked for a number of years at Denison’s.

She was a member of Park View Christian Church, Christian Women Fellowship and an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. Mrs. Ruffing is survived by her husband, Leo G.

Herman Burton Sims, Jr. “Bubba” of Waverly passed away peacefully Saturday, May 27, 2017. Born November 6, 1984, he was a son of Herman Burton Sims, Sr. “Burt” and Lucy Marie Westfall Sims. Bubba loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed playing softball and used to coach Tee-ball. Bubba worked at Row-Mic Construction Company and was a former member of Waverly Volunteer Fire Department. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Billie Earl Sims and his maternal grandmother, Leonia Westfall.

Mary Letha Olson was born in Bland County, Virginia on May 22, 1934. She graduated from Bland High School in 1951. After graduating from McLain’s Business College she worked for the Appalachian Power Company in Bluefield, West Virginia and came to Southeast Virginia in 1955. She worked for 10 years at Fort Eustis. She and her husband were married in March of 1959 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Norge, Virginia. They moved from Williamsburg to Sussex in 1967, and became members of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer that same year.

Born September 10, 1943 in Illinois, she was one of nine children of the late Herbert and Mary Verbunt Smith. Arleen was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Arleen never met a stranger; she had a giving spirit and a kind heart. When she was not spending time with her family, she loved to go watch a movie or crochet with her friends, the SoCo Knitters and Crocheters, at the Walter Cecil Rawls library in Courtland.
