           Barbara Taylor G. Griggs passed away on March 21, 2017. She was the daughter of the late M. Alphonsa and Annie Grace Taylor Griggs. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald A. Griggs and six sisters.

            She graduated from Cypress High School and attended Radford College. She was member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Chuckatuck. She worked for the City of Suffolk in the General District Court as the Clerk of Court and retired in 1996.

“Mac” was a detective with the city of Norfolk, VA and Nansemond County, VA. He retired as a Postal Supervisor from the Suffolk, VA Post office in 1997.

Julian Darold Hart, caring son, uncle, brother, teacher, and friend, 96, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in Richmond, VA. He was born in Surry County, VA on May 12, 1920, son of the late Edward Lee and Ocie West Hart. Darold grew up in Dendron, VA. He graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA, and Richmond Polytechnic Institute in Richmond, Va. He completed graduate studies at the University of Virginia. Darold served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, which included a tour of duty in Australia. He taught in the Middleburg School System for many years.

Juanita Ann Bryant Feagans of Hampton passed away peacefully Monday, March 6, 2017.  Born July 20, 1939 in Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of the late Shepard Baily Bryant and Rosanna Jane Crocker Bryant. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Elma Dean Mason, and Eloise Bryant Atkins; and a brother, Shepard Baily Bryant, Jr. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Thomas J. “TJ” Brinkley, 88, the son of the late Bennie Aaron and Earlie Byrum Brinkley passed away on Saturday March 4, 2017.

TJ was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, a deacon twice and treasurer in the early years of the Church. He was also a member of the men’s choir, and was affiliated with Allen Hardware, TJ was also the manager of Suffolk Marina. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post # 0141.

Shirley McGuire Rhees, age 90, died on February 24, 2017 in Suffolk, Virginia.  She had been hospitalized for heart failure in January and was in hospice care at Lake Prince Woods Health Center when she passed away.  She was predeceased by her parents, William E. McGuire and Ethel Surface McGuire; her sister, Jean McGuire Waldrop; her cousin Howard Surface (whom she regarded as a brother); and her devoted husband of 60 years, Jerome U. (Jerry) Rhees.

Lillie was raised on Shingleton Farm in Waverly and spent all of her life on a farm supporting her husband and raising her family. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lane Chambers, Sr.; her sons, Harold Lane Chambers, Jr. and Clarence Edward Chambers, Sr. and her brothers, Horace, Herman, Harvey, Henry, and Hoyet Cornett.
