Charles Edward Cross “Sonny” 88 went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2017. He was the son of the late Lorea V. Barnes and Charles E. Cross, Sr.

Sonny was a retired Captain from the Portsmouth Fire Department and was an Army Veteran. He loved to fish and holds the Virginia record for a 17 ½ pound flounder. He also loved his red truck, one of the last trucks off of the Norfolk assembly line. Sonny was a caring family man and he will be greatly missed. He also enjoyed his girls at Dennis Spaghetti and Steak House.

He is survived by his nieces Margaret Williamson and Gloria A. Merritt; sister Rhoda Sowa; sister-in-law Connie Barnes; great nieces and nephews Dennis L. Williamson (Laurie) Jerry Williamson (Kathy) Donna L. Thomas (Rick) Richard E. Williamson and Angel Duke; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11 AM in Baker Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk VA 23435. The burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens with Fireman’s Honors. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 6 to 7 PM.
