Walter E. Jernigan, 82, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He is predeceased by his parents Gertrude J. and Charles L. Jernigan; and step brothers, Charles L. Jernigan, Jr. and B. Frank Jernigan.
He is survived by a niece Patricia J. Bristow and husband, James; a great niece, Elizabeth B. Simpkins and husband, Benny, and their children, Katelyn and Hunter Simpkins.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2012 in Newman Memorial Cemetery, Oakland Christian Church, 5641 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, VA by the Rev. Tony R. Peaks. R. W. Baker & Co Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 West Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434 is serving the family.
