Richard Oswin Applebach, 88, passed away February 2, 2012 with his loving family at his side. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary, and one sister, Ethel Fannon. He was the son of the late Sadie T. and Charles R. Applebach.
Born in Quakertown, PA, he was a retired Lt. Commander serving in the U. S. Navy for 23 years. He was a veteran of WW II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. Mr. Applebach then worked for the Newport News Shipyard as a Nuclear Engineer for 22 years.
He is survived by his two sons, Charles Applebach and wife ,Sally, of Virginia Beach and Richard Applebach, Jr. and wife, Janice, of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Maria Waters of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Chris, Cliff, James, Bryan, Jared, Rachel, and Emilie; and a brother, Ronald.
A funeral service will be conducted in Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. Michael D. Halley on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11:00 am with burial at 2:00 pm in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norfolk, VA with military honors. The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL, 33607.
