Helen Spivey Buffkin, 85, died February 15, 2012 after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Agnes Spivey. She was a lifelong resident of the Suffolk area and retired from teaching after many years of service in the Chesapeake School System. She graduated from Whaleyville High School, attended William and Mary College, and earned her BS and Master’s Degree from Old Dominion University. She was a member of Oakland Christian Church.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Sidney Eugene Buffkin; one sister, Becky S. Salp, and her husband, Thomas; three nephews; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack B. Spivey.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:30 pm by the Rev. Mary Henderson at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 16 at the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington Street, Suffolk.
