Frank Edward Monroe, 74, passed away January 14, 2012 in Portsmouth.
Born in Lyons, KS, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Virginia Monroe. He joined the Navy in 1956, and served during the Vietnam War until he retired in 1978 as a U.S. Navy Chief. After his retirement he served as the ROTC instructor for a total of 18 years between Bruton and Tabb High Schools.
Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy Lee B. Monroe; daughters, Pamela L. Ellsworth of Sammamish, WA, Tammy L. Monroe of Issaquah, WA; son, Frank E. Monroe, Jr. of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Yvonne LeGear of Concord, CA, Roberta Curtis of St. John’s, KS.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday January, 20, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA by the Rev. Larry Russell. Burial will follow with military honors at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Thursday, January, 19, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a donation be made to the Navy Relief Society, 875 North Randolph Street, suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203 or to Faith Free Will Baptist Church, PO Box 205, Carrollton, VA 23314. Uncle Frank was such a loving wonderful man who will truly be missed. We are praying for you Aunt Nancy and family. May you find the strength to get through these days.
